What are stun guns?

Stun guns are electronic devices that produce an electric current for use in self defense. When pressed to the skin of a person, a non-lethal jolt of electricity is felt. These devices come in various styles, sizes, colors, amperage, and voltage. The low amperage and high voltage gives them a powerful punch to the receiver, but keeps them non-lethal. Electricity that is deadly is high amperage and low voltage.

Are stun guns effective?

Yes, the runt rechargeable stun gun is very effective at keeping an attacker at bay. In fact, you may not even need to touch a would-be attacker in order to make them flee. Discharging the electrical shock in the air for 1 second sounds so scary that they will likely decide not to bother you. Try it out so you can hear what it sounds like. But be sure to only press the button for 1 second. If you discharge into the air longer, your device may begin to malfunction.

What are good stun guns?

There are so many good stun guns. The best for you just depends on what you are comfortable with. Read stun gun reviews to determine which one you like best. Check out the different styles, voltages, and special features such as flashlights or disable pins. Some specific brands are as follows: Zap, Red Dragon, Stun Master, Safety Technology, Pitbull, Vipertek, and Guard Dog. Ultimately, you have to determine the best stun gun for yourself.

Do stun guns hurt?

The longer you hold a stun gun against an assailant to worse it feels. A touch with a device for 1/2-1 second will likely startle your attacker and cause mild pain and muscle contractions. A longer touch of 2-4 can cause more intense pain and the person may fall to the ground. Shocking an attacker for 5 seconds or more may cause intense pain, resulting in disorientation, and muscle control loss.

Think about how it feels to get a little static electric shock during the winter. That is just a tiny zap. Stun guns hurt, so please don't use them as toys for pranks.

Can stun guns be lethal?

There are many sources reporting that stun guns are non-lethal. However, there is always an exception to any rule. If your attacker has a heart arrhythmia, it may be possible for a stun gun to affect the heart. However, this doesn't mean that it will cause death. That person just may need to get care as soon as possible.

Do stun guns leave burn marks?

There are videos in which they show marks left on the skin where touched with the runt rechargeable stun gun. They look to be equivalent to a mild sunburn, which is 1st degree. If you have sensitive skin, it will likely leave a small mark, but nothing major.

How much are stun guns?

Stun guns vary in prices, depending on the size, brand, and features. You can buy small stun guns for as little as $10 and spend up to about $200 depending on what you buy and where. Don't let the price fool you.  A more expensive device may be no better than a cheap stun gun.

Are stun guns illegal?

Stun guns are restricted in some states: Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. Also certain cities have taser restrictions: Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Denision/Crawford County, IA. They are restricted in the following countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K.

In all other states and cities, they are legal if you are using it for self defense. It is always illegal to use a stun gun to commit a crime. You have to be 18 years or older to carry and use a taser gun.

Why are stun guns illegal in some states?

The short answer is that there is no National Rifle Association for stun gun owners: No well-funded and politically powerful lobby protects the rights of stun gun owners to possess and use their devices; no one seriously uses the devices to hunt, and there are no emotional, historical, or familial arguments to be made in favor of stun gun owners’ rights (when was the last time you heard someone argue for the right to use his grandfather’s antique stun gun?).
