Trigger Stun Guns

What do stun guns do?

A self defense taser gun generates a high voltage and low amperage electric charge. The voltage gives the charge lots of pressure, but low amperage makes it low intensity. When you touch a person with a stun gun, the charge passes into that person's body. The higher the voltage, the thicker the clothing through which the charge will penetrate. The low amperage is not enough to cause permanent damage to the attacker unless it is applied to their body for a long time.

Why stun guns work?

They work because the electrical charge disrupts the person's normal electrical activity in their nerves and muscles. For example, your brain sends electrical signals to your muscles when you need to run away from something frightening. The stun gun causes the muscles to contract which causes pain and incapacitates an attacker for a short period of time. Like when you hit your funny bone, you get a jolt of pain from the nerve being hit and sending a pain signal to your brain.

Will stun gun knock you out?

No, ordinarily, they will not knock someone out. It is possible, though, that if someone has a very low pain tolerance, they may pass out due to pain caused by a taser gun. Or if the person falls after being shocked, they could hit their head and pass out. But these people would hypothetically be knocked out as a result of the stun gun, not as a direct cause.

Do stun guns hurt?

Yes, they hurt, but are non-lethal. Think about what a little shock of static electricity feels like. It hurts, but for a second. A stun gun has much more shocking power.

Different amperage on stun guns will result in different levels of pain from that particular device. The higher the amperage, the more pain it will cause. Also, the long you touch someone with your device, the more pain they will experience. You shouldn't need to shock someone for more than 5 seconds in order to get away. They will be incapacitated at that point.

Self defense taser guns are less than 5 amps to keep them non-lethal. Our homes can run on 100 amps. There is much more power, which is why you we call the electrician who knows what he is going to fix our electricity. If you touch something that is live, it can be deadly.

Do stun guns work through clothing?

Yes, these devices will all work through thin clothing. The higher voltage devices will work through thicker clothing. Because of this, a good rule of thumb is to buy the high voltage stun gun. The high voltage devices, such as 20 million volts, are easily affordable at around $20.

Are stun guns illegal?

Stun guns are legal in most of the United States, if you are 18 years old. Exceptions to the rule are the following states in which they are illegal:  New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Michigan, and In Wisconsin, Illinois, and Arizona, they are legal with restrictions. Also in certain cities they are illegal, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Howard County, Maryland, and Denison/Crawford Counties in Iowa.

If you reside in any of these states or cities, check with your local laws to see exactly what law states about purchasing, owning, or carrying a stun gun.

There are also a few countries in which stun guns are restricted: Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Norway, U.K., Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, India, and Canada.

Can stun guns be taken into Mexico?

On the Mexican airline, AeroMexico, there is nothing stating you can't take stun guns on the plane into Mexico. I would keep it in my checked luggage. Trying to carry it in your carry on bag is asking for trouble.

I have found one website that states guns, ammo, pepper spray and lethal knives or machetes (anything over 8 inches) are all illegal. Nothing was said about stun guns.

Will a stun gun work on a dog?

Yes, dogs will feel the jolt of electricity just like a human would. Before you shock a dog, try discharging the device to produce the cracking sound of electricity. This may scare the dog away. But if that doesn't work, touching the dog with the probes will definitely give him a shock that likely sends him running away from you.
