Are 18% self defense sprays legal?

This concentration of OC is now legal in most states. Just in 2018, Michigan has joined other states in allowing the high 18% pepper spray to be utilized by the public for personal protection. Check your local laws prior to purchase. There may be other restrictions such as what size container is allowable or age of person buying and carrying the device.

What type of pepper spray should I buy?

There are 4 different spray pattern types from which to choose.

Stream is very effective. It's range is about 10-15 feet, depending on your device. Best for outdoor use.

Gel is great for both indoor and outdoor. It is unaffected by wind. It has a longer range of about 25 feet. It sticks to the assailant and is difficult to remove.

Foam can also be used indoor or outdoors because it isn't dispersed into the air. It has a shorter range of about 8 feet. It covers the attackers face in a thick foam.

A Fogger disperses tiny droplets of pepper into the air. This type is not recommended in a windy situation because the pepper will likely come back on the user. Has a range of about 8 feet.
